Who we are

Haiti

Following the well publicised natural disaster and the tragic associated loss of life on Haiti in January 2010, BuildAid operatives are to undertake an evaluation and appraisal visit to Port-au-Prince from the 13th of March 2010.

A report of findings will be made available for distribution upon return, and a public appeal launched for a range of projects BuildAid envisages it will undertake in the coming months, funding permitting.

Jimma, Ethiopia

The plans for Operation Smile's Comprehensive Healthcare Centre which is being developed in partnership with Jimma University and BuildAid are progressing well.

We have now completed the draft proposal with a view to completing the technical design and tender process in the next 2 months, in order for the instruction of site works to begin ahead of schedule in October 2010.

Schools Programme

We are pleased to confirm that following another very successful year in Sri Lanka, when we refurbished four schools, that we hope to extend the programme to Ethiopia and will be assessing suitable projects later in the year.

This will be subject to obtaining funding of course.

Potable Water in Kulleegoda

Following the unsuccesful attempt to extract water from the ground at Kulleegoda (Sri Lanka) we have now installed a commercial tube well and pump at a total cost of $15,000. This not only serves the new dental surgery installed last year but the school and the entire village community.

The Dental Surgery at Sumana Vidalaya School at Kulleegoda

As part of the refurbishment programme of the Sumana school (see What we've done) we have completely refurbished the dental surgery. The surgery actually serves all the schools in the Madampa area which numbers in excess of 8000 children between the ages of 5 and 18.

Having now repaired the fabric of the building, rewired the surgery and redecorated the unit, we have provided new modern equipment including a dentists’ reclining chair, specialist pneumatic drill, modern surgical instruments and consumables.
